Forest Service Announces Redding Meeting and Comment Period for Forest Plan Changes
REDDING, Calif. — The U.S. Forest Service is hosting a public meeting in Redding to discuss proposed changes to the Northwest Forest Plan, marking the first major update since 1994.
The meeting will be held January 23, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Shasta College’s Building 2000. Virtual attendance is available via the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Facebook page.
While public meetings offer valuable discussion opportunities, the Forest Service emphasizes that official comments must be submitted through two channels:
- Public Comment Portal (preferred method)
- Email to [email protected]
All comments must be received by March 17, 2025, to be included in the public record.
The proposed amendments focus on reducing wildfire risks, supporting local economies, enhancing climate resilience, and strengthening tribal involvement in land management decisions.
Before commenting, the public is encouraged to review the Draft Environmental Impact Statement at usfs-public.app.box.com/v/PinyonPublic/folder/293927886292.
Twelve additional meetings are scheduled across Washington and Oregon through February 13. For meeting locations and times, visit the Forest Service’s Northwest Forest Plan amendment website.
