The 79th McCloud Lumberjack Fiesta Grand Marshals

The McCloud Community Recreation Council announced that this year’s Grand Marshals for the 79th McCloud Lumberjack Fiesta will be the town’s beloved LeRoy and Joyce Scarbough. This annual event is taking place on July 24th through the 26th. Though the Festival starts Friday night at Hoo Hoo Park with the Little Miss Fiesta and Little Lumberjack competition, the Parade will be down Main Street in McCloud Saturday morning at 11 AM led by the Grand Marshals.

The Scarbroughs married as teenagers over 53 years ago and came to the town of McCloud in 2001 from Dunsmuir where they lived 27 years prior. They were drawn to McCloud because of their connection with the Calvary Christian Church. LeRoy worked together with Al Daw on the Railroad who was the Pastor of the church at the time. Since 1989, they sometimes would come up to McCloud four times a week because of their involvement with the church and were always impressed with how friendly and welcoming the McCloud community was, which was how they also fell in love with the town. LeRoy says, “We looked into helping and supporting the McCloud community because the people here are like family to us. We got involved with the Recreation Council to help the local children because they are such a big part of our community.”

Along with volunteering with the McCloud Recreation Council through the years, they also volunteer and help with the McCloud Fireman’s Association and now, over 10 years later, their grandchildren also help host the McCloud Fireman’s breakfast at annual events.  They also volunteer with the McCloud Resource Center with Joyce even serving on the board, and with McCloud Neighborhood Watch. While LeRoy has been on the McCloud Community Services District Board (currently on his second term on the board), Joyce has helped with the elementary after school program from 2007 to 2012.  They are also lifetime members of the McCloud Heritage Junction Museum.

Patty Ballard-Faulkner, president of the McCloud community recreation council says of the Scarboughs, “Both LeRoy and Joyce have always been available to step up to help whenever asked. They are one of the most supportive volunteers in whatever endeavor the Rec Council is involved in. They have helped put on the Annual Easter Egg Hunt over the years. They are truely family.”
