Effective: 2022โ2026
Siskiyou News is an independent community newspaper of record dedicated to truthful, accountable journalism that serves Siskiyou County and the State of Jefferson region. Guided by Christian faith and a commitment to rural resilience, we prioritize accuracy, transparency, and public service.
Core Ethical Principles
We follow the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics, adapted to our mission:
- Seek Truth and Report It: Be accurate, fair, and thorough. Verify facts from reliable sources and clearly distinguish news from opinion.
- Minimize Harm: Treat people and sources with respect while fulfilling our duty to inform.
- Act Independently: Avoid conflicts of interest and remain free from outside influence, including government, advertisers, or special interests.
- Be Accountable and Transparent: Own mistakes, respond to reader concerns, and operate openly.
We are committed to exposing corruption, defending rural values, preserving local history, and reporting with integrity rooted in truth and justice.
Corrections Policy
Accuracy builds trust. We correct errors promptly and transparently:
- Factual errors will be corrected as soon as verified.
- Online stories receive a clear editorโs note at the top or bottom with the date and explanation.
- Print corrections appear in the next available issue.
- Clarifications are issued when stories are accurate but need better context.
- Readers may request corrections by contacting the publisher. We investigate in good faith.
- Significant corrections may include a follow-up notice or reference in our โLoose Screwsโ column.
This policy is reviewed annually. Feedback is welcome and helps us serve the community better.
