February 9, 1926 – July 10, 2026
Minnie “Bunny” Frederick died on July 10, 2026 at her home in Yreka. She was born on February 9, 1926 in CleElum ,Washington to Robert and Minnie Ballard. Bunny had two sisters: Betty and Babs, and two brothers: Chuck and Bobby, all of whom preceded her in death.
Bunny had to quit school at the age of 16 to help support her family during World War II. She and her mother worked on a military base as truck drivers.
After the war, finishing high school, and some college courses, Bunny met her husband, Ed Frederick, at a dance at the Ballard Grange Hall in CleElum. They discovered that they both loved to dance and ride horses, so they married shortly after their meeting.
Bunny and Ed lived in CleElum in an old reconditioned granary before moving in 1952, with their two young children, to a ranch on Willow Creek in Montague, California, where Ed farmed before going into the logging industry. They moved into Yreka in 1957, where Ed grew his logging business and Bunny always followed where the jobs led, living much of their time in an RV at logging sites.
She and Ed, always with their children, traveled the world, loved boating, snowmobiling, hunting, dancing, and genuinely enjoyed life when not working hard at their business.
After Ed died in 2020, Bunny stayed in her home, grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who frequently stopped by to visit. She got to have a big 100th birthday party earlier this year, where friends and family came from far and wide to celebrate.
Bunny leaves behind her son, Rick Fredrick, who was a partner in the business and his wife Mary, who was their bookkeeper and caretaker for many years. She also leaves behind her daughter, Debbie and her husband David Richardson; grandchildren: David (Katie Joe) Richardson, Katie (Luke) Woodward, CJ (Kerri) Frederick, Tessa (Beau) Johnson, Minnette Frederick, Rikki (Jarret) Scott, Stacey (Jason) Murieen, and Doug (Alisha) Foster; she also leaves 35 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren!
A funeral service for Bunny will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 10:00 am at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka, with a burial in Evergreen Cemetery to follow.
