Nov. 3rd, 1940 – Jan. 12th, 2025
Lifelong Siskiyou County resident, Alvin Roy Besoain, Jr. – better known to his friends and family as “Biff” – passed away on January 12, 2025 at Madrone Hospice House in Yreka.
Biff was born on November 3, 1940 in Yreka to Alvin “Bud” and Pauline (Conrad) Besoain. In his youth, Biff was the typical Siskiyou County boy: he was an outdoorsman, and he played all the sports from basketball to baseball to football. His talent, though, was on the tennis court, where he was a very successful athlete for Fort Jones High School.
After graduating high school, Biff went to work in his favorite location: the woods. He spent over 40 years in the timber industry, where he developed a reputation as one of the best cat-skinners in the region. Quite often Biff’s family would be regaled by tales, lessons, and accounts of Biff’s work by his coworkers, friends, and fellow loggers.
Outside of work, Biff had a tremendous sense of humor, and was very generous in his ways. One of his favorite hobbies in recent years was watching for good sales at the grocery store, stocking up on food, and delivering them to folks he thought would enjoy them. Biff enjoyed the outdoors even in retirement, always hunting or fishing, and he enjoyed acting as an honorary neighborhood watchman – cruising around in his vehicle checking on his friends, family, and neighbors.
Biff is survived by his daughter Paula Basteyns; his son Roy and daughter-in-law, Lisa Besoain; grandchildren, (who were his pride and joy), Sydney Besoain, Crystal Snapp, Scott Snapp and Summer Basteyns; several great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Besoain, his parents, Bud and Polly Besoain and sister, Cynthia Facey.
Biff will be remembered for his love of old music, playing guitars and spending time with his friends and family on a regular basis, reminiscing about all the good times he had. Biff will be missed but not forgotten.
A graveside funeral service for Biff will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Fort Jones Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
