REDDING, Calif., Sept. 25, 2024 โ The Shasta-Trinity National Forest will host a Women in WildFire training camp from March 30 to April 4, 2025, in Redding, California. The camp prepares women for entry-level wildland firefighting positions. The training also allows entry into the federal workforce as competitive applicants.
This training encourages more women to explore careers in wildland fire and work for the USDA Forest Service. Participants receive a comprehensive orientation on wildland fire that focuses on team building, leadership development, and professional skills. Attendees can also expect other opportunities, such as challenging uphill hikes, to better understand the physical demands of the job.
The Women in WildFire training camp is open to women ages 18 to 37 eligible to work in the United States regardless of current location. Applicants must be in good physical condition, attend the entire week of the training camp, and pass the Forest Service Work Capacity Test at the arduous level. The arduous Work Capacity Test requires completing a three-mile walk with a 45-pound vest in less than 45 minutes.
Applications open Oct. 1, 2024, and close Nov. 1, 2024. To apply, complete the online application. You will receive an email on Nov. 4 requesting additional information that must be submitted by Nov. 20 to be considered.
Selections will be made in Dec. 2024. Participants will receive room and board, transportation, equipment and hourly pay during the camp but are responsible for travel to and from Redding, California.

This training was cancelled due to trumps DEI cuts and federal grants being paused. I was supposed to attend and receive my red card and planned to work as a wildland firefighter this summer with all of my certifications. Now myself and other women are scrambling to find other training opportunities before summer starts. This is not the only female based camp that was cancelled.
