REDDING, Calif., Sept. 25, 2024 — The Shasta-Trinity National Forest will host a Women in WildFire training camp from March 30 to April 4, 2025, in Redding, California. The camp prepares women for entry-level wildland firefighting positions. The training also allows entry into the federal workforce as competitive applicants.
This training encourages more women to explore careers in wildland fire and work for the USDA Forest Service. Participants receive a comprehensive orientation on wildland fire that focuses on team building, leadership development, and professional skills. Attendees can also expect other opportunities, such as challenging uphill hikes, to better understand the physical demands of the job.

Applicants must be in good physical condition, attend the entire week of the training camp, and pass the Forest Service Work Capacity Test at the arduous level. The arduous Work Capacity Test requires completing a three-mile walk with a 45-pound vest in less than 45 minutes.
