Siskiyou County Lease Agreement Raises Conflict of Interest Concerns

YREKA, CA – A lease agreement set to be approved by the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors on October 1st has come under scrutiny due to potential conflict of interest concerns.

The agreement, between Siskiyou County’s Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Social Services Division and Jefferson Resource Properties, LLC, is for office space located at 746 and 750 South Main Street in Yreka. The five-year lease, running from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2029, is valued at $783,791.50.

However, questions have arisen regarding the involvement of Danielle Lindler, who is listed as an owner of Jefferson Resource Properties, LLC on the lease agreement. Sources indicate that Lindler also serves on the county’s Planning Commission, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest.

The lease agreement, which is on the Board of Supervisors’ agenda for October 1st, does not appear to disclose Lindler’s role on the Planning Commission. This omission has led to calls for greater transparency in the county’s contracting process.

County officials have not yet commented on the potential conflict of interest. Ethics experts suggest that public officials should disclose potential conflicts and recuse themselves from decisions involving their private business interests.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the lease agreement at their upcoming meeting. It remains to be seen whether the potential conflict of interest will impact the decision or lead to changes in county procedures.
