Monday, only 12 were swore in as Siskiyou County Civil Grand Jury members. The court needs 7 more for 19. In open court, the judge told us to encourage other people to apply. Grand Jury training begins at 9:00 am (08/14/’23) at the courthouse. “If people do not apply until next week, my guess is that there will be a 2nd training.”
Monday morning (08/07/2023), in open court I raised my right hand, and took the following oath to be sworn in as a grand jury member of the Siskiyou County Civil Grand Jury:
California Penal Code §911. The following oath shall be taken by each member of the grand jury: “I do solemnly swear (affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of the State of California, and all laws made pursuant to and in conformity therewith, will diligently inquire into, and true presentment make, of all public offenses against the people of this state, committed or triable within this county, of which the grand jury shall have or can obtain legal evidence. Further, I will not disclose any evidence brought before the grand jury, nor anything which I or any other grand juror may say, nor the manner in which I or any other grand juror may have voted on any matter before the grand jury. I will keep the charge that will be given to me by the court.”

The presiding, and honorable Judge JoAnn M. Bicego read from California Penal Code §911, and administered the oath, to the 12 present. (Need 19, and Judge Bicego encouraged grand jury members to tell people to apply.)
Now that I have been “sworn in”, will I be “sworn at”?
