Siskiyou Sheriff’s Sergeant Discovered Over 45.8 Pounds of Narcotics

Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Deputies intercepted a major drug shipment on Interstate 5 during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday, October 15th. The incident occurred when a Sheriff’s Sergeant stopped a northbound vehicle near North Yreka, leading to the discovery of 45.8 pounds of narcotics. The driver, identified as Jose Felipe Ceyca Ramirez, 37, of Los Angeles, reportedly consented to a vehicle search which revealed 18.5 pounds of fentanyl and 26.2 pounds of cocaine concealed in the trunk compartment. According to officials, the quantity of fentanyl seized could potentially be lethal to over 4.2 million people. Ramirez, who stated he was traveling to Portland, Oregon, was arrested and booked into Siskiyou County Jail on charges of possession of controlled substances for sale and transportation of controlled substances. The seizure represents one of the more significant drug interdictions along the I-5 corridor, a known drug trafficking route connecting California to the Pacific Northwest.
