Thelma Gladys Mills, at the age of 92, passed away at Madrone Hospice House on March 20th, 2023. She was born on July 28th, 1930 in Etna, and spent as much of her life in the valley as she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Linn Mills, her son Jim Mills and her daughter, Lorena Davis. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Doane and son in law Curtis Doane; her three granddaughters: Samantha, Kelley and Amber; her grandson Joe; four great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Stanley and many family members and friends that will miss her dearly.
She was a talented painter and seamstress, created the most beautiful embroidery and always had a lovely garden. She loved watching hummingbirds visit the feeders outside her windows, and teaching her grand kids to make pies and cookies. Her homemade jam was coveted by all who tried it. She volunteered for many years with the Native Daughters of the Golden West, and helped oversee the remodeling and expansion of the Etna Chapter’s museum.
Being around friends and family always filled her with joy. She will be warmly remembered and greatly missed.
Her memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 29th, 2023, 10am at the Etna Cemetery; and will be followed by a celebration of life at the Scott Valley Berean Church. Memorials may be given to the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Etna. The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Madrone Hospice.
