Campus Closes for Winter Break

Weed / COS – The College of the Siskiyous Weed and Yreka Campuses will celebrate the Holidays with a campus closure beginning Friday, December 23 and continuing through Monday, January 2, 2023.  The College will reopen Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 8 a.m.  For campus information during the closures view the COS website at www.siskiyous.edu.

Catch up, keep up, or get ahead! Registration for 2023 Winter Session & Spring Semester is Open 

COS / Weed –Registering for a Winter Session class (or two) is a great way to ‘catch up, keep up, or get head’ in your education.  College of the Siskiyous provides transfer classes to four-year colleges, associate degrees, vocational certificate programs, job skills classes, and courses for personal enrichment and recreation.  Winter Session classes will begin January 3, 2023.  The majority of classes offered during the four-week intersession are online.

Spring semester classes will begin January 30, 2023.  View the schedule of classes offered online at www.siskiyous.edu.  The College offers many services to students including advising and counseling, two residential lodges, tutoring, financial aid, and an onsite campus bookstore where students may also purchase their books and supplies.  Be sure to register early to get the classes you need and want.

The office will provide you with the help you may need to clarify and successfully complete your academic and career goals.  Advisors and counselors are generally available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 COS Foundation Announces Scholarships Available for 2023-2024

Weed / COS – The College of the Siskiyous Foundation announces scholarship applications for 2023-2024 are available for Siskiyou County and Modoc County high school seniors (graduating spring 2022) and current COS students who plan to attend COS during the 2023-2024 year.   Deadline to apply is March 15, 2023.

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors planning to enter COS during the fall semester following their high school graduation, single parents striving for self-efficiency, young students supporting themselves while continuing their education, and continuing COS students.  Scholarships range from $250 to $5,000.    

Applications are available online at www.siskiyous.edu/foundation/scholarships.htm.   Applications must be completed and returned with required documents (school transcripts and letters of recommendation) to the Weed Campus Foundation Office by 4 p.m. on March 15.  For more information call (530) 938-5373 or email [email protected]

 College of the Siskiyou to Offer Brand-New Creative Writing Certificate Program 

COS / Weed – Do you want to write a book but don’t know where to start? Are you tired of your writing falling flat? Do you need help getting your work published? Are you afraid you are not creative enough? Then our Creative Writing Certificate is perfect for you! With our help, you will be able to write that book that the world needs. From coming up with new product ideas to generating marketing campaigns that will capture attention, creativity is an essential skill in business. That is where a creative writing certificate comes in handy. Registration is currently open for Advanced Creative Writing (ENGL 1020 / #1061) at College of the Siskiyous.  This is an online, zero-textbook course that will be offered during the 2023 Winter Session (January 3 – 26, 2023).  Sarah Kirby is the instructor.  

Our Creative Writing Program is designed to help improve writing skills and provide an opportunity to explore different genres. Students will learn how to write persuasive and creative copy for a variety of platforms, which will give them a competitive edge in the job market or in building their own business.  Be part of a community of writers who share your love of writing. Learn how to write fiction, nonfiction, and content for the digital age. Write effectively for a range of audiences and platforms, making you a versatile writer in today’s market. 

Becoming certified in Creative Writing shows a seriousness about writing and having taken the time to learn from experts in the field.  Receive feedback on your work from classmates and instructors to help you improve your writing skills. Writing for contemporary digital platforms means you will be learning the latest trends and techniques.  With our certificate, students will be able to start their career as a creative writer or improve their current writing skills.
