Obituary: Roy Edward Martin Jr.

Longtime Siskiyou County resident Roy Edward Martin Jr. passed away on March 18, 2025 at his home in Yreka after a lengthy illness. He was 85 years old.

Roy was born on February 3, 1940 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Roy and Edna Martin. In 1960, Roy married Betty Kidwell, and the family made their home in Crescent City. In 1963 they moved to Happy Camp, where Roy worked as a foreman in the lumber mill. After Roy retired from the mills, he and Betty moved to Yreka. Roy took care of Larry Stidham’s donkeys during his retirement years. Roy always celebrated Memorial Day weekend with a family campout and fishing at Shasta Lake.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Angie Martin of Yreka. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty, in 2021, and a son, William Martin.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 12:00 Noon next to the Karuk Peoples Center in Happy Camp. A pot luck will follow. He will be laid to rest at the Happy Camp Cemetery.
