December 16, 1936 – May 18, 2026
Donna Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026 in Yreka.
Donna was born on December 16, 1936, in Greene County, Iowa to Margaret and Floyd Fountain. She was raised on the family farm and was proud to still own a piece of her familyโs farmland in Iowa. Donna met Robert (Bob) Smith in Jefferson, Iowa and the two were wed on July 6, 1958. In 1960, shortly after the birth of their daughter, Lu Ann, Bob and Donna moved to Yreka, where they have lived for the past 66 years.
Donna’s life was marked by her dedication to her family and her many creative pursuits. Donna treasured her family roots in Iowa, visiting often with her daughter and grandchildren. In addition to working at, and later owning, Classic Draperies in Yreka, Donna found joy in a variety of hobbies that showcased her creativity and zest for life. She was an accomplished quilter and seamstress who also enjoyed tatting, a delicate form of lace-making. Her love for the arts extended to her support of the Red Scarf Society for the Performing Arts, of which she was a frequent patron. Donna believed in staying active and the importance of physical fitness, which she maintained through line dancing and classes at the Siskiyou Family YMCA. She treasured the time spent with friends who shared her interests.
Donna’s family was central to her life. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Lu Ann Singleton (Ray); and two grandchildren who brought immense pride and joy to her life: Amy Evans (Tyler) and Clinton Singleton (Laura). Donna was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Claire (13), Holt (12), Audrey (12), and Grace (8) who she loved entertaining in her kitchen just as much as they loved sharing her treats. Additionally, Donna is survived by nephews Merritt Stream (Annette), David Fountain (Linda), Darrell Fountain (Melanie), and nieces Linda Hedges (Randy) and Mary Ann Fountain, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Floyd Fountain; her beloved sister Francetta Stream; and her brother Darrell Fountain.
