January 6, 1944 – January 28, 2026
Caroline Dorothy Meamber Earhart succumbed to her battle with pancreatic cancer at her
home in Castro Valley, California on January 28, 2026, at the age of 82.
Caroline was born in Yreka, California on January 6, 1944, to Dr. Donald Lester Meamber, Sr., and Dorothy (Prather) Meamber. Caroline was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Jonathan Philip Earhart. She is survived by her sister Barbara (Meamber) Hull and her brother Donald Meamber, Jr., and by her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Thomas Nugent, Jr., her son and daughter-in- law Jeffrey and Christina Sonas, and her grandchildren Katharine Sonas, Emma Sonas, Andrew Nugent, James Sonas, and Howard Nugent. She is also survived by her chosen family: Darryl and Cynthia Ting, their children Michael Ting and Jennifer Ting, and her close friend Clifford Stoll.
Caroline was a gifted teacher and software designer, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and a prolific and passionate quilter. She self-published three books during her life, the first two telling stories from her own and her husbandโs lives, and her final book: a compendium of photos and stories about her award-winning legacy quilts that was started after her cancer diagnosis and completed only two months before her death. She had a family story for every occasion, and the best way for any of us to honor our memories of her will always be to keep recounting her stories and adding our own.
Her children will host a celebration of her life in July 2026 in the San Francisco Bay Area.
