2018 Fire Recovery Homebuyer Funds Available; Free Workshop Set for Redding

Eligible households encouraged to attend February 18 workshop to learn about down payment and closing cost assistance

Redding, CA โ€“ Funding through the ReCoverCA Homebuyer Assistance (HBA) Programโ€™s 2018 Fire Recovery allocation remains available, helping low- to moderate-income households that were living in high or very high fire severity zones in Butte, Lake, Los Angeles, or Shasta counties during the 2018 wildfire disasters.

To help residents understand available resources and take the next steps toward homeownership, a free Homebuyer Workshop will be held in Redding on February 18, 2026, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Redding City Hall.

The ReCoverCA HBA Program helps individuals and families purchase homes in areas safer from wildfire risk by providing up to $350,000 per household in down payment and closing cost assistance. The assistance bridges the gap between what an eligible household can afford and the total cost of homeownership and is offered as a Second Mortgage Loan, forgiven after five years of continued ownership and occupancy.

To be eligible, applicants must have been residing in a primary residence located in a high or very high fire severity zone within a qualifying disaster area at the time of the 2018 fire events and meet income requirements of generally up to 80 percent of Area Median Income, based on household size. Applicants are not required to show direct impact from the disaster.
