Louis “Carl” Truttman
July 22, 1943ย ย –ย ย June 29, 2025

On June 29, 2025, Louis โ€œCarlโ€ Truttman passed away surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He was born to Louis and Frances Truttman on July 22, 1943. Carl grew up in Grenada with his three siblings, cousins and lifelong friends. Life was filled with hard work on the familyโ€™s ranch, playing basketball and baseball for the Grenada Wildcats and hunting and fishing, every chance he got.

Carl married the love of his life, Patti, on August 7, 1965, and they enjoyed a true love affair until her passing in December 2022. Carl worked as a plumberโ€™s apprentice after his graduation from Yreka High School until he joined the union as a journeyman pipe fitter. He started Truttman Plumbing, but eventually joined his father and brother to start Truttman Construction. During the 1970s and 1980s,Truttman Construction built hundreds of homes through Siskiyou County and sponsored a very successful softball team that Carl loved to play for.

He eventually returned to work for the Pipefitters Union and landed a supervisory position with Airco Mechanical. During his tenure, Carl worked jobs across the United States making friends and memories on job sites in Detroit, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Nevada and cities throughout California. No matter where his job took him, his family always stayed his priority. Despite working away from home, he never missed his kidsโ€™ games or events if he could help it. He also found time to coach his sonโ€™s little league team and served several terms on the Grenada Elementary School Board.

His love of hunting and fishing stayed with Carl throughout his life. Whether he was hunting doves, ducks or big bucks or fishing area streams and rivers for trout and steelhead, he always brought home food for the freezer. He was also an avid gardener and every summer he grew a bounty of vegetables that he shared with the whole community. He always grew the sweetest corn and the juiciest tomatoes.

Carl became โ€œPopโ€ with the birth of his first grandchild and there was nothing he loved more than cheering on his grandkids at football games, volleyball matches, baseball games and life in general. Jordan, Ty, Callie, Jaci and Trevor provided him with countless hours of laughter, joy and memories filled with pride.

He didnโ€™t just cheer on his kids and grandkids; he was also a loyal sports fan. Whether he was cheering on the 49ers, the Warriors or the Dodgers, he stayed a fan even through the losing seasons.

Carl lived a life demonstrating every day the principles he believed in – love, hard work, commitment, loyalty, kindness, generosity and joy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patti. He is survived by his siblings, Linda (Bob) Fuchslin of Fremont, CA, Dolly (John) Moody of Idaho and James (Joyce) Truttman of Grenada. He also leaves behind his three children: Carla Truttman of Yreka, Shannon (Shannon) Currie of Grenada and Jason (Jennifer) Truttman of Grenada. Pop will probably miss his grandkids the most, leaving behind Jordan Currie, Tyler Currie, Callie Currie, Jaci Truttman and Trevor Truttman.

A date for Carlโ€™s Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Madrone Hospice House or the Truttman-Trinca Memorial Scholarship Fund at United Scholarships, Inc.

He may be physically gone, but Carl Truttman left us all with the powerful legacy to โ€œalways remember who you are and to never forget where you came from.
