American Legion Riders of California Legacy Run

It was a little intimidating to see a huge gang of motorcycle riders cruising through McCloud on a quiet Saturday afternoon.

But after a closer look at their black leather motorcycle vests, one can see that they are all from different chapters of the American Legion Riders and on their bright yellow long-sleeve shirts underneath it says, “Legacy Run.”

Over 50 riders from 15 different chapters of the American Legion Riders throughout California participated in the 6th Annual American Legion Riders of California Legacy Run on a three-day fundraising motorcycle ride across California.

There are 93 separate Chapters of the American Legion Riders in California alone, with about 1,900 riders total.

State Secretary for the American Legion Riders Debbie Proffitt holding “Ryder” her Chapter’s mascot, with Ralph Wenzinger who is the American Legion Riders Director from Bakersfield, and Vice President of the American Legion District 15 and Director of Chapter 26 of the Riders Rochelle M. Starting in Turlock and traveling through Woodland to Oroville on the first day and then to Redding, stopping at the Redding Veterans Home to make donations on the second day before heading to McCloud to have lunch at American Legion Post 92 before heading back down to Shasta Lake for a spaghetti dinner. On day three, the motorcyclists will be heading off to Auburn. They all did this at their own cost to raise money for the Veterans and Children Foundation. The purpose of this foundation is to assist veterans and active-duty military with children who are having financial hardship. Last year they raised over $60,000 for this foundation.

The American Legion Post 92 in McCloud hosted lunch which consisted of chicken kabobs, bell peppers, zucchini and onions with toasted orzo, green salad, and desserts. American Legion Chapter 92 Riders and Auxiliary member Carolyn Glenn prepared the lunch and then headed down to Redding to also host the dinner the same evening.

Thanks for covering this for us, we appreciate the exposure to make people aware of our very important mission. McCloud is such a beautiful little town too, riding through town, feeling the cool air and the fragrant pines was sublime!!

    • On behalf of all the Riders on this year’s California Legacy Run, thank you for your coverage of our visit to American Legion Post 92 in McCloud and explaining the purpose of the Run. As short as it was, we enjoyed our visit and the wonderful lunch prepared by Carolyn Glenn.
