Starting April 21st, the school will implement the nationally recognized “One School, One Book” program, where every member of the school community reads the same book simultaneously, creating a unique shared educational experience.
“This initiative is particularly impactful in our rural setting, where opportunities for shared educational experiences are limited,” said Annie McWilliams, Lead Teacher at Hornbrook Elementary.
The program kicks off after Spring Break with the introduction of a special surprise for students —a real live hamster as the school’s new pet, connecting to the theme of the selected book.
Throughout April and May, students will participate in buddy reading sessions and book-themed challenges. The initiative will culminate in a Family Trivia Night, where students will compete against their parents using knowledge from the book.
The “One School, One Book” program reflects Hornbrook Elementary’s commitment to fostering a culture of reading and meaningfully engaging families in the educational process, demonstrating how this program is a testament to the power of stories, connecting people of all ages and backgrounds. Making a significant impact through literacy.
