Assemblywoman Hadwick Honors Constituents With May Awards

SACRAMENTO, CA (May 28, 2026) โ€“ This month, Assemblywoman Hadwick (R-Alturas) was proud to recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses across Assembly District 1 that continue to make a lasting impact in their communities through service, leadership, education, and dedication to others.

Community Impact Award โ€“ Redding Rancheria

The May Community Impact Award was presented to Redding Rancheria for the incredible work they do supporting families throughout Shasta and Trinity counties.

โ€œRedding Rancheria does so much for Shasta County,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œFrom healthcare and housing assistance to Head Start and childcare programs, they continue stepping up to meet important needs and improve lives throughout the region. We are grateful for their leadership and commitment to serving others.โ€

Distinguished Service Award โ€“ Morgan Nugent

The May Distinguished Service Award was presented to Morgan Nugent, Superintendent of Fall River Unified School District.

โ€œAfter nearly three decades in public education, Superintendent Nugent continues to invest in the future of our rural schools and students,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œWhether itโ€™s improving campuses for younger students or expanding career technical education opportunities, his passion for education is clear in everything he does. He also continues to be a strong advocate for rural schools at both the state and national level.โ€

Shaping the Future Award โ€“ Whiskeytown Environmental School Community

The May Shaping the Future Award was presented to the Whiskeytown Environmental School Community.

โ€œThe Whiskeytown Environmental School has impacted generations of North State students through hands-on science education and environmental learning,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œIโ€™m also a proud WES alum and still have some of my favorite childhood memories from attending. After the devastation of the Carr Fire, it took years of dedication and hard work from educators, volunteers, and community leaders to bring this program back. Itโ€™s inspiring to see the progress being made to fully restore this incredible resource for future generations.โ€

Rising Star Award โ€“ Faith Escoto & Garrett Wunschel

The May Rising Star Award was jointly presented to Faith Escoto of Bear River High School and Garrett Wunschel of Amador High School for their outstanding achievements in Future Farmers of America.

โ€œBecoming a California State FFA Officer is an incredibly competitive and demanding process,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œHaving two students from Assembly District 1 earn these leadership roles is something our entire region should be proud of. They are outstanding young leaders with very bright futures ahead.โ€

North State Small Business Award โ€“ Cocoโ€™s Candy & Creamery

The May North State Small Business Award was presented to Cocoโ€™s Candy & Creamery.

โ€œI love seeing small businesses like this thriving in our district,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œNot only do they serve up amazing treats, but they also help create the kind of fun, welcoming places that bring communities together. I hope visitors traveling through the area stop in and support this great small business.โ€

Nonprofit Excellence Award โ€“ Surprise Valley Education Foundation

The Surprise Valley Education Foundation received the May Nonprofit Excellence Award.

โ€œWhen funding and enrollment changes threatened the Valleyโ€™s only school, this group stepped up,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œEach year, the Surprise Valley Education Foundation works hard to raise money so local students continue to have the same opportunities as kids anywhere else โ€” whether thatโ€™s field trips, technology upgrades, athletics, or whatever the need may be. Surprise Valley is one of those special communities that takes care of their own and always steps up when it matters most.โ€

Public Safety Award โ€“ College of the Siskiyous Law Enforcement Academy

The May Public Safety Award was presented to the Law Enforcement Academy at College of the Siskiyous in Weed.

โ€œCollege of the Siskiyous has the only law enforcement academy in Assembly District 1,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œIโ€™m proud to support their efforts in training our future officers each year and helping support sheriffโ€™s offices and police departments across the North State.โ€

Heart of the Community Award โ€“ Nicole McNeely

The May Heart of the Community Award was presented to Nicole McNeely, Executive Director of Child Advocates of Nevada County.

โ€œNicoleโ€™s dedication to children and families in Nevada County is truly inspiring,โ€ said Assemblywoman Hadwick. โ€œHer leadership, compassion, and willingness to collaborate with others continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local kids and families every single day.โ€
