WORKSHOP: Transition to Certified Organic Workshop to Support Local Farmers

Local farmers seeking to shift toward organic agriculture are invited to attend the upcoming Transition to Certified Organic Workshop on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fort Jones City Hall. This hands-on, in-person event is tailored for small-scale crop and livestock producers in Siskiyou County and surrounding regions who are considering or actively pursuing organic certification.

The workshop will provide attendees with practical, actionable guidance on transitioning to organic systems. The day’s programming includes expert presentations from the organic industry, peer learning, a farmer panel discussion, and culminating in an optional field walk.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Step-by-Step Guide to Certification:
Learn the steps to organic certification, along with key regulations every transitioning farmer should know. Experts will share insights on compliance, inspection readiness, and how local agencies can support producers through the process.
  • Healthier Livestock, Soil, and Communities:
Gain practical, science-backed strategies for building healthy farming systems for livestock health and explore the connections between soil, crop, animal, and human health.
  • Farmer Panel Featuring Local Organic Voices:
Hear firsthand experiences from producers who are in organic agriculture as they discuss challenges, benefits, marketing strategies, and lessons learned in their transition to organic agriculture.
  • Field Walk
