Spring has Sprung – Garden Gab

Truth be told, I really struggled with writing this installment of the Garden Gab. I caught a seasonal bug and writing is the last thing on my mind. Spring Fever is going around. Please take the necessary precautions. This week brought several gorgeous days in a row with a few hosting temperatures hovering around the 70 degree mark. This means that I do not want to be inside on the computer. Or inside at all for that matter. I want to be outside playing in the dirt (as my Granny would say). I am now forcing myself to write early this morning before the sun is fully shining and calling me to the garden like a siren song.

The beginning months of the year seem to slowly creep along allowing plenty of leisurely time for early seed starting and outside chores when the weather allows. Then, all of a sudden, itโ€™s here! Spring! Full blown Spring!! Hibernation is over people. Abruptly all the garden chores need to be done simultaneously and immediately. It is all I want to do and all I can think about. The garden. The flowerbeds. I saw a lady bug yesterday. I must get back out there.

This, of course, will not be the end of our wintery weather. My phone weather app is telling me that by the time you will be reading this article, the temperatures will again drop and more rain is in the forecast. This makes it even more important to get outside while the sun is shining. Benefits include contact with microbes in the soil that have been scientifically proven to improve mental and physical health and getting some much needed Vitamin D (#doyourownresearch).
