What is DEI? DEI is the acronym for diversity, equity, and inclusion that is used in the hiring process for government and private workforces. Its programs and policies initially came about because of the 1960’s civil rights movement and laws to correct discriminatory practices.
DEI policies and programs are used to recruit, hire and promote people based on their individual performance record, knowledge, skills, and abilities, rather than privilege. Affirmative action and quotas are not part of DEI.
DEI is not about putting unqualified people in jobs or hiring individuals because of gender, ethnicity, race, age, or sexual preference, rather it’s about hiring individuals who are highly qualified regardless of their gender, ethnicity, race, age, or sexual preference.

I think the ‘perception’ by some, maybe by many, is that under a DEI policy, a person who is a member of a minority group, pretty much any minority group, will be chosen over a white male.
