John Herzog left this world on Saturday, February 1, 2025. He was born in Inglewood, California July 3, 1945, to Robert and Natalie Herzog. The family moved to Mount Shasta in 1946 and grew up in that beautiful part of northern California. John was an outstanding student (Valedictorian,1963, Mt. Shasta High), Sacramento State University (Business, 1967), and athlete in baseball, football, and basketball. He met his wife, Margi Herzog, in 1959, and their relationship has spanned 65 years (56 married) and been a beacon for family and friends. John leaves his lifeโs love Margi, his three sons Jeff (Sacramento, CA with Magalie), James (Sacramento, CA), and Michael (Tacoma, WA with Keri). Grandchildren Kayla (Jefferson, GA with Jacob Purvis), Maxfield (El Paso, TX with Marina), Andrew (San Diego, CA), Alex (Pullman, WA), MacKenna (San Diego, CA and engaged to Advik), , Jacob (Sacramento, CA), Emma (Tacoma, WA), and great grandchildren Sierra, Lily, and Ford. John also leaves his sister Marilyn (Roseburg, OR), and his preceded in death by brother Edward (Enumclaw, WA).
John served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 and worked for American Hospital Supply from 1970 to 1980. He founded Herzog Surgical in 1980, which has become an institution for surgical product and services in California and Nevada. John spent many years in in volunteer roles at People Reaching Out, Loaves and Fishes. He was President of Genesis Medical, started ISDA (Independent Surgical Distributors of America), and owned In-Synch Systems. He was always a committed fan and supporter of the Sacramento Kings, Sacramento River Cats, San Francisco Giants, and San Francisco 49ers.
John fought degenerative kidney disease and various complications coming from that for over five years. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He has impacted many lives and will be remembered as a generous and caring father, friend, and citizen.
Funeral services will be held at St. Anthonyโs Church in Mt. Shasta on February 21 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Loaves and Fishes (Sacramento), Shrinerโs Hospital (Sacramento) or a charity of your choice in his name.
