July 1, 1934 – February 9, 2025
Olive Irene Brown was a lifelong resident of Siskiyou County. She passed away peacefully at her home in Yreka on February 9, 2025, at the age of 90.
Olive was born July 1st, 1934, up Hurds Gulch in Scott Valley to Marion and Ruby Simmons. Along with younger sister Evelyn, they lived in Scott Valley until the start of World War II when they moved to Happy Camp. Olive graduated from the old Log High School in 1951 and then attended College in Oregon, studying for a business degree. She returned to Happy Camp and that’s where she met the love of her life, Elmer Allan Brown (Hoopie). They were married on October 4th, 1954, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage until his passing in 2018.
Olive and Allan raised four boys while they lived in the Klamath River area, including homes in Clear Creek, Beaver Creek, Scott Bar and Hamburg. Olive especially loved their home in Happy Camp up Indian Creek. That’s where she spent many enjoyable hours tending to her award-winning flower gardens. If asked, Olive would refer to herself as a homemaker, but she also delivered mail for many years from Happy Camp to Somes Bar.
Olive will be remembered for her strong unwavering faith in the Lord, her enjoyment of gardening and flowers, but mostly for her all-encompassing love for her family. She enjoyed remembering birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions with her seemingly never-ending supply of cards.
Olive is survived by sons Bob (Alisa), Wayne (Nancy), West and Larry (Kim). She was so proud of her family and especially loved every one of her 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Olive was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her sister Evelyn. Olive’s favorite bird was the cardinal, so when you see one you will know that she is reaching out to you with love.
Olive will be laid to rest on Tuesday February 18, 2025 at 11:00am at the Happy Camp Cemetery with a memorial gathering to follow at the old Elementary School Auditorium in Happy Camp. Finger foods will be provided. Please bring your memories and stories to share.
