“That’s dedication!” a passerby remarks, watching members of the McCloud Garden Club work between storms to plant daffodils through frozen snow around the McCloud sign at the end of Main Street. Every year, the Garden Club plants daffodils around the town’s entrances and at the Blue Star Memorial on Highway 89 as part of the McCloud Beautification Committee.
“We received the bulbs late and need to get them in the ground before tomorrow’s storm so they will bloom in the spring,” says club president Nancy Smith.
Established in 1979, the McCloud Garden Club has over 50 members. One of their many seasonal projects involves making holiday wreaths to adorn local businesses. The club makes these gatherings festive with coffee and desserts, and regularly features informative guest speakers at their meetings.
