Community Turns Out in Force for 4th Annual CRPA Dinner

The Siskiyou County Gun Owners’ fourth annual dinner event proved to be a resounding success, bringing together community members for an evening of fine dining, fundraising, and fellowship at the YHS Big Gym in Yreka on November 23, 2024.

The star of the evening was Dave Tyler’s expertly prepared smoked prime rib, which filled the air with an irresistible aroma that welcomed guests as they arrived. Tyler, whose culinary journey began in 1966 with a rotisserie pig, chuckled as he admitted, “My hobby has gotten out of hand.” Together with his wife Kathy, they ensured the main course was cooked to perfection, while Jamie Cramer of HotLips Catering provided the complementary side dishes.

Lockboxes were provided by the Siskiyou Safer Homes Project, led by Siskiyou County Public Health, with the aim to reduce firearm-related deaths by promoting firearm safety and responsible storage, including the use of lockboxes and trigger locks. The initiative seeks to limit access to firearms during crisis, reducing harm. Additionally, the project supports mental health by providing resources that encourage self-care and strengthen community protective factors, fostering a culture of safety, responsibility, and mental health support.

The evening featured well-organized progressive raffles and prizes, with the Jefferson State Stampede managing the bar services. The community’s generosity was on full display through numerous donated items for auction, including contributions from local businesses and individuals. Notable donations came from Carl Rehbock’s “Barn Yard Art,” Travis Stringer’s “Snap-on,” Valley Tire & Tackle, and Oliver’s Saddlery gift baskets.

Raffle tickets inside coffee mugs adds to the thrill of being a lucky winner.

Other significant contributors included Tom McCully, Solano’s, Al Giordano, and the Automotive Service Center, which offered a $500 certificate. The Wine Bar, Jennifer Aseltine’s “Silver Cuffs,” Lona Mae’s Gift Certificate, and M. Peters Inc.’s load of firewood logs added to the impressive array of auction items.

YHS Senior – Trap Club, Summer Probet

The event showcased the talents of Yreka High School students across multiple programs. The YHS Trap Team was actively involved throughout the evening, with team member Summer Probet, a senior who recently moved from South Dakota, expressing her enthusiasm for being part of the Siskiyou community.

The YHS Culinary Program, led by instructor Heather Zanotto, demonstrated their skills by preparing 1,000 assorted cookies for the event. Zanotto, who has been teaching culinary arts at YHS for six years, oversees a robust program with 150 enrolled students. “It’s far beyond just learning to cook,” she explained, noting that the program participates in 8-10 events annually. Proceeds from the dinner will support the fourth-year Catering & Marketing class’s upcoming trip to New York in spring 2025.

Adding to the evening’s ambiance were beautiful centerpieces created by the YHS Floral Class. The arrangements were designed under the guidance of Candi Mott, owner of Twigs & Sprigs, who teaches two introductory classes and an advanced class with a total enrollment of 50 students.
