On Saturday, October 12th, at approximately 8:17 A.M., a major injury crash occurred on State Route 96 near Mile Post Marker 89.58, resulting in a vehicle plunging into the Klamath River. The incident prompted a response from both the California Highway Patrol and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.
Three occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All three individuals managed to escape from the submerging vehicle. The occupants sustained injuries of varying severity. One passenger required transportation to the hospital with serious injuries, while all occupants were taken to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded to the scene to assist with the incident. After ensuring all occupants were safely rescued from the river, the Dive Team secured the vehicle to a pulley system and successfully removed it from the waterway.
The crash is still under investigation. Law enforcement officials have stated that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident, though this has not been confirmed.
