Miles L. (Mike) Soskin passed away on October 7, 2024 at his home in Pasco, Washington with his wife of 45 years, Barbara by his side.
Mike was born in Los Angeles, California (in the Mar Vista area) on July 25, 1934 to his parents, Iris Rose Soskin and Henry Rosen. Mike’s father died when he was a baby, and he was later adopted by Ralph Soskin.
Mike owned J & J Mufflers for 50 years, and sold it to two of his employees when he retired. He owned a J &J Muffler race car that was well known on the local race circuit. Mike also enjoyed racing sailboats, and won many races in his class, namely the Ensenada Race and Santa Barbara Race. He was happiest while on the water. Mike belonged to King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach and Port Townsend Yacht Club in Port Townsend, Washington.
Mike and Barbara moved to Port Townsend, Washington upon retirement and enjoyed cruising the San Juan Islands and the Canadian Gulf Islands. Once he retired, Mike could not sit idle. He and a couple of guys built 4 steel buildings in Port Townsend Industrial Park. Everyone was amazed at his ability and his tremendous energy level. He could always outwork younger guys! His tenants always respected him and always looked after him as he aged.
At the time he got ill, he and Barbara were in the process of moving to Pasco to be around grandchildren. They all came to Port Townsend and drove Mike and Barbara to Pasco so they could take care of him. It made Mike extremely happy his last days were wonderful days. He was so grateful to spend time with everyone in his family.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Michael G. (Marti) Soskin. Mike missed him greatly, and mourned him daily.
Mike was survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Barbara (Fancy) Misipeka; grandsons, Trevor (Jennifer) Misipeka; Andrew (Tess) Misipeka; granddaughter Lisa (Bryant Allen) Misipeka; great-grandchildren Malia, Maloise, Matai, Kaia, Tailulu, Aolani, Bryson, and Rhyan.
A graveside funeral service for Mike will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10 am at Etna Cemetery in Etna, California.
