McCloud: Dear Friends and Family of Alan Schoenstein

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Alan Schoenstein, who tragically took his own life at his home in McCloud on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Originally from San Francisco, Alan and his wife have been cherished members of the McCloud community for many years. Alan proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy starting in 1958, holding the position of Postmaster on the USS Los Angeles. He also had a distinguished career as an executive at Wells Fargo Bank. Beyond his professional achievements, Alan took immense pride in being a member of the renowned Schoenstein family, founders of the most successful organ-building company on the Pacific Coast. Alan’s legacy of service to his country and professional life will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

After retiring to the area from Danville, CA, in 1999, Alan continued to contribute to his community. He was a past president and member of the Board of the McCloud Community Services District and an enthusiastic member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Mt. Shasta Rotarians. His volunteer work at church and community festivals significantly impacted the lives of those who knew him in McCloud and Mt. Shasta. He was a familiar, friendly face at multiple festivals’ beer and food booths.

Alan was born on December 20, 1939, and was eighty-four years old.

He was a loyal and beloved husband to Dorothea Barlett Schoenstein, a local artist of note, and stepfather to her two children, Kim and Ian. Alan cherished his grandchildren, Nathanial, Elissa, Ethan, and Jaeden, and strove to be an experienced voice in their lives.

A funeral/memorial service to remember Alan Schoenstein will be announced later.

We have all lost a friend. Please keep Alan’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh, Dorothea, I won’t intrude on your grief longer than to say I grieve with you and you have my sincerest condolences.
