over 5000 spectators attended the two day event.
Pro Division – 1st – Mark Colp 2nd – Constantine Morari 3rd – Jacob Lucas 4th – Jerod Flowers
The 2024 Northern California Chainsaw Carving Championship has come to a close, with Mark Colp emerging as the champion in the Pro Division. Colp’s stunning bear sculpture, featuring an eagle perched atop and a two-toned wood effect, captivated the judges and audience alike.
Despite facing a setback when his truck broke down the night before the event, Colp managed to arrive at the fairgrounds in Yreka, California, just in time to compete. His dedication and skill shone through as he claimed the top prize of $1,000, along with a banner, a cup, and the prestigious title of 2024 NorCal Chainsaw Carving Champion.
Jacob Lucas, 3rd place Pro Division
The Quick Carve competition saw Mark Colp’s friend and mentee, Jared Flowers, take home the People’s Choice Award for his charming sea turtle scene.
In the Semi-Pro Division, Riley Knaus secured first place for the second consecutive year with his impressive wolf bust.
Vince Hopkinson took second place, respectively, showcasing his talents with a humpback whale carving.
Organizers praised the participants for their incredible work throughout the weekend, expressing their gratitude for the carvers’ dedication and creativity. The event drew a diverse group of talented artists from across the country, with many of them being introduced to the competition by Mark Colp himself.
As the fairgrounds emptied and the carvers packed up their tools and sculptures, the 2024 Northern California Chainsaw Carving Championship concluded on a high note, leaving spectators in awe of the artistry and skill displayed by these remarkable woodworkers. Special thanks to Siskiyou Trap Club for all your hard work during the auctions and throughout the weekend.
