Billie Sutter went home to be with her Lord on May 12, 2023, exactly 21 years after the love of her life, John William Sutter, passed away. She was born Billie Ruth George on July 1, 1939. Her parents were De Loame George, and Ruth (McBee) George of Brownfield, Texas. She is survived by her sister Muriel, her sons, John and Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Julie, grandsons, Jake, Christopher, and David, nieces Judy and Jackie, and nephews Steve, Tim, and Tad.
Although Billie is possibly most remembered as Grandma Billie from her many years working for the Murphys at Scott Valley Drug, try to imagine her as a barrel racer, dirtbike rider, and speed racer in her ‘68 Camaro. She lived quite the adventurous life! She moved from Texas to San Luis Obispo, California to live with her aunt and attend school. She met John Sutter, who was attending University. They married, and upon John’s graduation and employment with the USFS, began moving to remote outposts and details within the Las Padres National Forest, Georgetown, and Orleans for several years. When John and Billie reached Scott Valley, they agreed to make Etna the permanent home in which to settle their family. It was also here that Billie discovered her talent for coaching cheerleaders, which she did for many years. Even after she retired from coaching, she attended all of the Etna High School home games and was the loudest and most spirit filled spectator – she could always get the crowd to cheer even from her seat in the bleachers!
If you spent any time at all with Billie, you knew to expect bear hugs and vast amounts of unconditional love. We will miss her and her generous heart so full of kindness, mercy, and forgiveness. Her life was a beautiful reflection of our Heavenly Father.
A graveside service will be held at the Etna Cemetery on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10 a.m.
Dear Sutter Family,
I remember Billie fondly from the Drug Store and she was very dear to my sister Joanne. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of loss. Big Hugs to you all.
