Dunsmuir’s Easter Egg Hunt Draws Many

Easter Sunday at 2 p.m., hundreds of children from all over Siskiyou County (and beyond) gathered at the Babe Ruth ball field in Dunsmuir under perfect weather conditions for the Dunsmuir Annual Easter Egg Hunt. This is the Dunsmuir Resource Center’s fourth year hosting this big event, taking it over from the Dunsmuir Chamber.

Breaking it up into three age groups โ€” 1 to 4, 5 to 8, and 9 to 12 years โ€” each having their own section of the ball field to collect eggs with winnings for the proper age range. The children quickly filled up their baskets with plastic eggs containing candy and small toys. The big winnings were handmade baskets filled with toys, games, stuffed animals, and a big special prize of either a fishing rod, skateboard, football, or baseball. Each age category also had a chance to win the grand prize of a bicycle. The Easter Bunny was on hand to pose for pictures and cheer the children on.

Daniel, age 9, won an Easter basket with a fishing rod and some toys in it. He says, โ€œItโ€™s my lucky day,โ€ as he stands with his grandparents, Melissa and Peter Brimhall with Mt. Jason Stout, coordinator of this big event and one of many volunteers who helped collect sponsors, buy the prizes, and put together the dozens of handmade Easter baskets, said, “Each year this wonderful family event gets bigger and bigger. I would like to thank all our volunteers and sponsors for helping make this such a special and big success. Sponsors include Dunsmuir Tire, Eileen Congi, Cami Giocomelli-Declusin, Manfredi’s, Ester McClendon, Kalyn DeAsis, Revive Church, Juliana Lucchesi, Laurel Ganger, Peter and Melissa Brimhall of Mt. Shasta Vacation Rentals, Timothy Seidlitz, Dunsmuir Lodge, JoAnne Maldonado, Anne Moody, Shasta Fun Inc., Grocery Outlet, and Kevin Tynsky.”

The McCloud Community Recreation Council regularly holds their Easter Egg Hunt the week prior so as not to conflict with their neighboring community’s festivities.
