The American Legion Post 92 Auxiliary is gearing up for Poppy Month! Soon you will see ALA members around town offering poppies in remembrance of our fallen warriors who served our nation and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
When The American Legion Family adopted the poppy as its memorial flower in the early 1920s, the blood-red icon became an enduring symbol of honor for the sacrifices of our veterans from the battlefields of France in World War I to today. The poppy also honors hospitalized and disabled veterans who handcraft many of the red, crepe paper flowers. Making poppies provides a financial and therapeutic benefit to these veterans, as well as a benefit to thousands of others.
Besides contributing to the continuing needs of our local veterans, the Poppy funds are also used to support three major national mission outreach activities: the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, the Honor Flight Mission and food insecurity among service members nationwide.
Please consider donating during Poppy Month.
You can mail a check to ALA Unit 92 or drop off a donation at one of our local Poppy Tables in McCloud, or drop off a donation at the Post 92 clubroom at 232 Broadway Ave., McCloud, CA 96057, by May 31st.
