Jerry was born on December 16, 1939, in Portland, Oregon, to Jean and Henry Guse. He attended Wilson High in Portland, Oregon and earned a BS in Business Administration from Portland State University. He was employed for thirty years as a budget analyst for the U.S. Forest Service.
