Shasta-Trinity National Forest announces seasonal hiring for upcoming recreation season

Redding, CA (Feb. 20, 2026) The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is hiring seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season and is encouraging local residents to apply.

โ€œOur seasonal employees are the backbone of summer operations โ€” keeping our campgrounds, trails, and recreation sites open, safe and welcoming for visitors,โ€ said Forest Supervisor Rachel Birkey. โ€œThese positions offer meaningful work, hands-on experience, and the chance to support public lands close to home.”

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is recruiting for a variety of roles, including up to 35 technician positions in recreation, trail maintenance, campground and day use area maintenance, and forestry in the following duty stations:

  • Redding, Calif.
  • Hayfork, Calif.
  • Weaverville, Calif.
  • Mount Shasta, Calif.

โ€œHiring these seasonal positions is essential to delivering the services visitors rely on,โ€ said Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz. โ€œOur seasonal employees are active members of the communities they serve. They keep forests open and accessible, campgrounds and other facilities clean, and neighboring towns thriving. Itโ€™s a direct investment in the people who make our national forests and grasslands special.โ€

Interested applicants must apply through USAJOBS.gov. Application periods, qualifications, and start dates vary by position. Applicants are encouraged to review job announcements carefully for deadlines and required materials.

Now that the Forest Service has streamlined its hiring process and shortened hiring timeframes, seasonal employees can begin work earlier โ€” opening more opportunities for people in rural communities to compete for jobs close to home.

“This year, we’re focusing our recruitment within the communities we serve,โ€ added Chief Schultz. โ€œLocal residents bring invaluable knowledge, pride, and a strong connection to the places we care for. We are excited to offer more opportunities for people who want to work close to home.โ€

These positions are in addition to seasonal fire hiring already underway. If you enjoy being outdoors and are interested in seasonal employment with the Forest Service, please check for opportunities and hiring events in your area.

Bringing on seasonal employees will help improve trails, campgrounds and facilities for safer, reliable and enjoyable recreation experiences for all. Technicians will be working in places such as Shasta Lake, several wilderness areas, and Mount Shasta, among others.

โ€œSeasonal jobs can be a first step into a natural resources career, a way to build experience, or simply a chance to spend the summer working outside,โ€ added Birkey. โ€œWe encourage anyone interested to apply.โ€
