As frustrating as it may be for residents within the unincorporated town of McCloud, the MCSD is locking the gate at the Green Waste Site. Those who need to drop off yard clippings will have to call the McCloud Services District and wait for a return call from Public Works Supervisor Eli Jones to arrange a time for him to unlock the gate.

This free service has been abused by some residents dropping off logs and other types of waste that are not allowed, creating more work for MCSD employees who must bring in backhoes to clean it up. The site has also been used by people who live outside the MCSD boundaries, which is not permitted.
Unlike other green waste sites in Siskiyou County, the McCloud Green Waste Site is free to residents within the district because it is included in the trash bill. The plan is to fence in the area, install an electric combination gate, and provide only paying district residents with the combination.
Other sites, like Lake Shastina and Black Butte Transfer Recycling, charge fees for this service. The McCloud District offers it free of charge to those who live in the district and pay MCSD fees.
The Forest Service and local Law Enforcement are aware that those who donโt want to be inconvenienced might dump their green waste by the gate or maybe in the woods.
