McCLOUD, CA (December 26, 2025) โ A coordinated multi-county rescue operation successfully extracted four stranded individuals from Davis Road north of McCloud late Christmas night, after heavy snowfall and near white-out conditions rendered the area impassable for regular law enforcement vehicles.
The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office received separate reports of two stranded vehicles at approximately 11:30 p.m. on December 25th. Responding deputies quickly determined that deteriorating weather conditions required specialized equipment, prompting activation of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) team.
Initial response efforts encountered mechanical difficulties with Siskiyou SAR’s SnoCat, creating a potential delay in reaching the stranded motorists. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (Oregon) and Klamath County Sheriff’s Office immediately deployed their SAR teams and equipment to assist.
The Jackson and Klamath County SAR teams navigated treacherous conditions to reach the scene, successfully extracting all four individualsโtwo adult males and two adult femalesโby 2:15 a.m. on December 26th. None required medical attention beyond assessment for cold exposure.
Gratitude and Public Safety Reminders
The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office extends sincere gratitude to Jackson County Sheriff Oregon and the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office for their generous and timely assistance.
In light of this incident, officials emphasize critical safety protocols for winter travel in Siskiyou County:
- Vehicle Removal Responsibility: The Sheriff’s Office approaches stranded motorist callouts as life-saving operations only. Stranded vehicles will be left in place, and owners must arrange removal once conditions improve.
- Road Condition Awareness: Snow levels have dropped to 3,000 feet elevation, rendering many rural roadways above that threshold impassable. Motorists should check CalTrans QuickMaps at https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ for real-time conditions before traveling.
- Emergency Preparedness: With additional winter storms forecast this week, drivers should equip vehicles with chains, extra food, water, blankets, warm clothing, and flashlights. Even Interstate 5 experiences significant delays and chain control checkpoints during severe weather.
Stay Safe Siskiyou!
