McCloud, CA โ€“ December 9, 2025 (Updated 8:03 a.m.) โ€“ The tense police standoff in McCloud involving wanted suspect Steven Robles remains ongoing as of mid-morning, with law enforcement surrounding an RV on upper Broadway Avenue. Residents continue to be advised to stay indoors and lock their doors amid reports of an early-morning high-speed chase that included gunfire directed at officers.

The incident unfolded around 6:00 to 6:30 a.m., when at least eight patrol vehicles pursued a suspect vehicle through the quiet Siskiyou County town. The chase ended with officers blocking off streets and encircling the trailer/camper where Robles, 36, has been living behind a home on Broadway Avenue. Robles was slated for court sentencing today on prior charges and has a history of arrests, including a November 15 detention in Trinity County for parole violation, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen propertyโ€”though he was released shortly thereafter. Local accounts describe Robles and his brother as notorious for break-ins, thefts from vacation homes, and other criminal activities in the area, with one resident noting his “rap sheet 10 miles long.”

Community alerts via the McCloud Neighborhood Watch Facebook group have urged vigilance, with some reports mentioning a possible accomplice: a male and female in their 20s wearing dark clothing. No injuries have been confirmed, but the situation has heightened anxiety, prompting suggestions for residents to keep self-defense items handy and check on elderly neighbors.

In response to the ongoing threat, McCloud Elementary School has announced a late start for the day. According to Amber Ramos, a school employee, classes will proceed with a delayed opening, but if Robles is not in custody by 10:00 a.m., school is likely to be canceled entirely. A notification will be sent to parents via the district’s communication system. Parents are advised to monitor updates and keep children home if concerned.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office has not provided additional details on the pursuit or potential charges from today’s events, but the area around upper Broadway remains cordoned off. Authorities emphasize that this is an active scene and urge the public to avoid the vicinity.

This story is developing, and further updates will follow as new details emerge.
