Obituary: Kevin Stuart Miller

Kevin Stuart Miller
March 1st 1965 – Oct. 2nd 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Stuart Miller, 60, of Weed, California. After bravely facing complications of rheumatoid arthritis, Kevin passed away on October 2, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 1, 1965, in Mt. Shasta, California, Kevin is the son of James and Joyce Miller. He spent his early years living in Edgewood, California with his parents and older brothers, Tim and Alan.

Kevin loved growing up in Edgewood where he attended Butteville Elementary when it was a small one building school with multiple grades per classroom. He often shared stories of adventures with friends from school or his cousins and the time they spent exploring along the Shasta River, at nearby Jackson and MIlls ranches, and even at the cemetery after dark.

Kevin developed a love for the outdoors and spent a lot of time hiking and fishing at local mountain lakes and rivers, riding his dirt bike in the back country, skiing on Mt. Shasta and Mt. Bachelor, and golfing. Kevin was happiest when he was on an adventure and out in nature. He also enjoyed playing and watching sports. His favoritesโ€“the San Francisco 49ers and SF Giants, NASCAR, college football and womenโ€™s basketball, and professional golfing.

Kevin graduated from Butteville Union Grammar School (BUGS) and Weed High School (WHS). He was involved in sports at both schools. His senior year (1983), his basketball team won the Shasta Cascade League Championship and were the NSCIF Division III menโ€™s basketball champs. That team was later inducted into the WHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

In 1990 Kevin married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Harris. This year they celebrated 35 years of marriage and 43 years together. They had two children, Paige and Stuart. Kevin was very proud of his kidsโ€™ accomplishments and was so excited when his two granddaughters, Madison and Roseanna were born.

Kevin spent his early work years working in the logging industry. He was a proud third generation logger. He worked his way up from landing chaser to equipment operator. He also worked at P&M Cedar Company and Roseburg Forest Products over his working life. He spent the last six years of his working life as the Equipment Specialist at College of the Siskiyous, where he took care of the uniforms, equipment and game set up for COS sports teams. Although it was not easy to leave the logging industry, given his love of sports he really enjoyed supporting the teams and working with the coaches and student athletes.

Kevin was a bit of a risk taker, keeping his family and friends on their toes at all times. He was the life of the party. He loved music and was often found listening to music and singing alongโ€ฆusually at high volume. He even spent several years as the lead singer for a local band, Rival. If you spent much time around Kevin, you were probably singing along with him or laughing/smiling at something crazy he said or did. He had a sensitive heart and cared deeply about those in his circle. He loved hard and played just as hard.

Kevin is survived by his wife and children, Nancy, Stuart (Ariel) of Citrus Heights and Paige (Connor) of Portland. His mother, Joyce Miller of Weed; brothers & sisters-in-law Tim (Brenda) of Weed; Alan (Kathy) of Henderson, NV. He was predeceased by his father, James Miller; maternal grandparents, Alford and Lucille Linville, and paternal grandparents, Nelson โ€œBudโ€ and Esther Miller.

Although Kevin has left us too soon, we are grateful he is no longer in pain and can now rest in peace.

This last year Kevinโ€™s brother, Tim, rescued a puppy that had been dumped at his logging site. Kevin did not want to see the puppy go to a shelter and agreed to take her. He named her Cora and loved Cora, a Belgian Malinois-Shepard mix, with all his heart. She spent her first year getting to know and understand her new home, develop trust, and enjoy her time with Kevin, Nancy and their golden doodle, Sid. As Kevinโ€™s health declined, it was clear that Cora needed some training that he was not able to provide. It was Kevinโ€™s wish to get Cora professionally trained in order to give her the best life possible. Although the training did not happen before Kevin passed, in Kevinโ€™s memory, Nancy has made arrangements for Freedom K-9 to train CoraIn lieu of flowers we invite you to consider honoring Kevin by donating towards Coraโ€™s training or to a charity of your choice. For donations towards Coraโ€™s training, please send to Freedom K9, 5821 Truck Village Drive, Mt.
