Community Rallies with Relief Fund for Families Hit by Sudden Weed Mill Closure

Roseburg announced the immediate cessation of operations at the nearly 40-year-old facility, citing a strategic consolidation of resources into its Oregon mills.

WEED, Calif. โ€” In a devastating blow to the local economy, Roseburg Forest Products announced the immediate closure of its veneer plant in Weed on December 3, 2025. Resulting in the layoffs greater than 140 workers just ahead of the holiday season. The sudden shutdown has left many families facing financial uncertainty, prompting a swift community response to provide support. A job fair is being held DECEMBER 12th at C.O.S. many resources including potential employment representatives will be present.

Goldenhour Collective, a local organization in Weed, has stepped up by launching the “Together for Weed: Mill Family Relief Fund” to assist the affected families. The fund aims to raise $8,000 to cover essential needs, including holiday gifts for children, warm clothing, groceries, gas cards, and other basics, ensuring that the holidays remain a time of joy rather than hardship. As of now, the campaign has raised about 12% of its goal, with donations being coordinated through partnerships with local organizations for dignified and efficient distribution.

“Weโ€™re reaching out to help get the word out to both families who may need support and community members who want to give,” said a representative from Goldenhour Collective in a statement. The organization emphasized a simple verification process to ensure aid reaches those directly impacted by the mill’s closure.
