People from all around Siskiyou County are showing up in McCloud for “Skate Night” at the McCloud Dance Hall. This new family event is happening once a month, but plans are in the works to create more Skate Nights each month.ย Kristen Cunningham, owner of the McCloud Dance Hall building, is looking for sponsors. So far, she has added heating, refinished the hard wood floors, and put in a sound system along with other building improvements, but there is still a lot more work to be done on this historical building.

The huge dance hall room with beautiful, finished hardwood floors, is the perfect place for families and friends to gather regardless of the weather conditions outside for a fun filled night. She is looking for people to donate more skates, or volunteer their time to help with events, and she is also in need of sponsors.ย

10-year-old Mary from Mt. Shasta to come for the second time to skate. This time she came with a group of 5 kids and 4 adults. She says, “I love the sparkling lights, and it is so big here with lots of room, it makes it look like hardly anyone is skating. The floor is so fantastic and smooth. We are all having a great time.”
Another small group of friends from Mt. Shasta, Lindsey, Kristen, and Sandi, all in their 40’s, agree that ‘this indoor recreational opportunity for local communities is such a benefit when there is not much of a night life for people and kids who don’t like to go to bars.’ There is also music with DJ Shasta Request Live by Mandel Davis who can be reached at (530) 859-1805. And to top it all off, there is a large party room with a kitchen that provided snacks during the event.
During the early skate time there were over 30 skaters that came from Shastina, Yreka, Weed, Redding and Mount Shasta for a night of skating.
The evening was divided into two parts. The first two hours are for children and the second two hours are for adults and more experienced skaters. There are walkers available for beginners and so far, Kristen has about 10 adult size skates and 6 children skates. She is looking for more skates to be donated but they have to have rubber wheels.

Angelina Cook who looks like a professional dance on skates as she glides and twirls on the dance floor, says, “The Dance Hall roller night is the most happing thing in Siskiyou County. We are so grateful for Kristen for opening the Dance Hall for skate Nights for both kids and us adults too.”
Maggie, a 27-year-old from Weed has been skating for only 3 years. “My co-workers told me about Skate Night, and I have also seen it on Facebook. We love the opportunity we would otherwise have to go all the way to Redding.”
Maggie’s friend Lina, also from Weed adds, “It is all about community and bringing people together.”
Both Maggie and Lina wear knee pads just in case.

Mary Worley is 77 years old and says she is working on her balance as she holds onto a walker while skating. “Opening this up for skating is so fun and positive for the community. More people should bring their children here.”
The McCloud Chamber is sponsoring a teen skate night on December 6th. The times will be 2 to 4, 5 to 7, and 8 to 10pm.
The McCloud Dance Hall is located at 104 Pine St, on the corner of Broadway in McCloud. To find out more about Skate Night or other event venues, go to www. mcclouddancehall.com or call (530) 853-1177
