UPDATE: Fourth Hit-and-Run Reported as Highway 299 Investigation Continues
Extended Investigation Spans Hours Along Mountain Corridor
A fourth hit-and-run incident emerged Friday afternoon as California Highway Patrol officers continue investigating what has become an extended multi-scene collision investigation along Highway 299.
At 12:26 p.m., witness Melissa Miller contacted authorities from her gray Subaru Forester to report observing a pickup truck sideswipe multiple vehicles near the Whiskeytown Lake rest stop. Miller stated the driver performed a U-turn to collect debris from his vehicle before fleeing. Her cell service was lost during the report.
CHP Officer A37-054 noted at 12:33 p.m. that “this TC is very long” as the investigation stretched into its fourth hour. Officer A37-053 confirmed contact with the suspect vehicle bearing license plate 17884F3, which is missing its left front tire.
The investigation now encompasses four separate hit-and-run incidents along the Highway 299 corridor, requiring coordination between multiple CHP units and towing services. Officer 37-S3 is handling paperwork for two vehicles from the initial collision while gathering resources for the ongoing multi-scene investigation.
The complex incident has required multiple tow trucks from California Tow, Twin View Tow, and other services to clear damaged vehicles, including a Nissan with a broken rear axle that required specialized heavy-duty equipment.
Despite the extensive property damage across multiple collision scenes, no injuries have been reported in any of the four hit-and-run cases under investigation.
