A man who may be the tallest person currently living in the United States made a stop at Upper Falls Market (formerly the McCloud Valero mini mart) recently, creating quite the memorable encounter.
Standing an impressive 7 feet 8 inches tall, the Oregon resident towers over most people he meets. In the accompanying photo, he’s shown next to Scott Moore, who at 6 feet tall provides a striking sense of scale – the height difference is truly remarkable.
The visitor, who works as a logging truck driver in Oregon, shared an intriguing piece of information from his travels: at an overseas convention, he was told he ranked as the 23rd tallest person in the world. However, he received no information about his status among Americans specifically.
The Challenge of Verification
Determining who holds the title of “tallest American” proves surprisingly difficult. No official government agency tracks such statistics, making verification nearly impossible. Research into the matter reveals that the tallest documented American was 7 feet 8¾ inches – just three-quarters of an inch taller than our recent visitor. Since that record holder has passed away, it’s entirely possible that this Oregon truck driver now holds the distinction.
While we can’t definitively confirm his status as America’s tallest living person, the encounter certainly left an impression on everyone at Upper Falls Market.
