Lorene โ€œBabeโ€ Rhoda Marlin Heide died suddenly on the afternoon of June 14, 2025 at home at the ranch in Quartz Valley, having spent 81 wonderful years there.

She was born to John E. Marlin & Doris E. Thomford on October 7, 1925 in Hayward, California. She enjoyed growing up in Hayward and San Lorenzo back when the area mostly grew vegetables and flowers. In high school, she was part of the rifle marksmanship team and was a very good shot. She married John Henry Heide in the summer of 1944 and permanently moved to the ranch in Quartz Valley in spring of 1946.

Babe loved cooking meals for whoever showed up, but didn’t always follow the recipe depending on what ingredients were available in the cupboard and fridge. The smoke alarm was usually the timer for when meals were ready as she would get distracted with gardening or other projects. And when she realized the smoke alarm had gone off, her favorite saying heard throughout the house was โ€œOh shit!โ€ She was blessed with a very โ€œgreen thumbโ€ when it came to gardening and could get almost anything to grow in her large beautiful yard. She enjoyed being outside fishing, hunting, riding horses, and traveling. Her other hobbies included leather craft, stain glass work, sewing, needle point, and knitting. She always had numerous pets and enjoyed their company.

Babe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Don Heide.

She is survived by daughters Peggy Heide (Willie Hager) of Yreka and Nancy Carver (Garold) of Quartz Valley, and daughter in law Pat Heide of Helena, Montana; grandchildren Greg Heide (Jesse) of Helena, Montana, Kevin Heide of Helena, Montana, Heidy Carver of Quartz Valley, and step grand daughter Sheila (Brady) Smith of Medford, Oregon; great grandson James Lewis Mumford Heide of Helena, Montana and step great grandson Braden Smith of Medford, Oregon. She also had very special โ€œadoptedโ€ granddaughters Auna and Sage Byers of Quartz Valley.

Respecting her wishes, no memorial service will be held. Cremation and burial beside her husband and son will be at a later date by family at the Fort Jones Cemetery.

If you would like to honor her memory, you can make a donation to your charity of choice in her name.
