A Terrifying Near-Miss: Yreka Police Issue Urgent Plea After Drunk Driver Smashes into Emergency Vehicles

Yreka, CA – June 17, 2025 – The Yreka Police Department is sharing a harrowing account and an emotional plea with our community after a recent incident vividly highlighted the devastating potential of drunk driving. Just weeks ago, on the 1500 block of South Main Street, what began as a routine traffic stop spiraled into a scene of pure chaos when a drunk driver veered out of control and slammed into two of our patrol vehicles and a civilian car.

The impact was sudden, violent, and utterly terrifying. In a reckless act of complete irresponsibility, the drunk driver first struck the rear patrol car, then continued to skid dangerously, grinding along the side of a second patrol vehicle and the passenger car. It was an abrupt, heart-stopping moment for everyone involved.

“We are profoundly, incredibly thankful that this incident did not result in major injury or death,” said a spokesperson for the Yreka Police Department.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to the California Highway Patrol, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, CalFire, Yreka Fire, Mt. Shasta Ambulance, and Bruce’s Towing.
