County of Siskiyou and Partners Launch Siskiyou Village to Support Unhoused Residents
YREKA, Calif. โ The County of Siskiyou and its partners are proud to announce the opening of Siskiyou Village, a new transitional shelter community located in Yreka, offering safe, secure, and service-connected housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in Siskiyou County.
The shelter site, located in the city of Yreka, consists of 15 private shelter cabins designed by Pallet Shelter, a Public Benefit Corporation. Each unit is constructed with fiberglass-reinforced plastic and an insulated aluminum structureโdurable, easy to disinfect, and resistant to bedbugs and mildew. The cabins are designed to last over 15 years and provide a dignified, secure environment for residents.
Residents also have access to bathrooms and showers, a gated dog area, office space for staff and case management meetings, as well as a communal gathering space and on-site supportive services. Staff from Northern Valley Catholic Social Service (NVCSS) will operate the site 24/7, providing supervision, case management, peer support, and housing navigation. Residents will work with staff to develop individualized plans focused on achieving long-term housing stability, life skills development, and access to mental health and substance use treatment.
A small private opening was held on May 29, 2025, to recognize this milestone and honor the many partners whose contributions made Siskiyou Village possible.
โThis project is a reflection of what can be accomplished through strong partnerships and a shared vision for a healthier, safer community,โ said Siskiyou County Board Chairwoman Nancy Ogren. โSiskiyou Village represents an important step forward in our commitment to supporting our vulnerable residents. Weโre proud to be part of a solution that brings real hope and opportunity to those in need.โ
The project brings together multiple local and state partners, including the County of Siskiyou, City of Yreka, California Department of Health Care Services, Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. – AHP, Partnership HealthPlan of California, Northern Valley Catholic Social Service Inc. (NVCSS), NorCal Continuum of Care, and Pallet Shelter.
โSiskiyou Village is the culmination of a partnership between Siskiyou County and the City of Yreka,โ said Yreka Mayor Colleen Baker. โIt demonstrates that local governmental agencies can come together to work toward a common goalโto better the lives of some of our most vulnerable population.โ
Siskiyou Village is designed to be more than temporary housing. With 24/7 on-site support and access to behavioral health and case management services, it serves as a critical bridge to long-term housing stability and improved wellness for residents.
