Please join us for the opening reception of Mother Justina’s MFA Thesis Exhibition at Liberty Arts Gallery in Yreka this FRIDAY, May 2nd, from 5-7pm.
“Prayer, Work, Place” explores, through paintings in various mediums, the intertwined themes of spirituality, labor, and environment as experienced by the female monastics at the Orthodox Convent of St. Elizabeth in Etna, California. Mother Justina, one of our cherished Swedish nuns, uses paintings that contrast iconographic depictions of female Saints with contemporary representations of her fellow nuns, highlighting that their daily work is a vital form of prayer, uniting them with the Divine.
The exhibition fulfills requirements for Mother Justina’s Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
