*SITUATION Update: Siskiyou News Facebook Page Security Breach

*ADMIN RIGHTS HAVE BEEN RESTORED*
With a bit of luck and the assistance of a META Team, the pages have been restored to Siskiyou News. I am grateful that this has been restored, and I truly appreciate it.

Dear Siskiyou News Community,

I am writing to update you on a serious security breach affecting our Siskiyou News and Yreka News Facebook pages. On Sunday, I received a notification that I had been removed as admin of the Siskiyou News page. Upon checking the business portfolio, I discovered my access had been downgraded to partial control. I immediately filed a case with Meta, providing screenshots and supporting documents to address the issue.

On Monday morning, I received a text from Meta asking if I could take a phone call, and I have since been in direct communication with their investigation teams. Initially, they estimated a resolution within 48 hours. Unfortunately, by early Wednesday morning, the hackers also gained control of the Yreka News page. I promptly informed county officials to ensure they were aware of the situation.

You may have noticed unusual or inappropriate posts on these pages, and I deeply apologize for this. This incident underscores the risks of relying on third-party platforms. I am working closely with Meta as they address these security vulnerabilities, and I remain hopeful that full control of our pages will be restored soon.

This breach reinforces why I’ve worked tirelessly to build an independent platform for Siskiyou News, free from such external risks. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge, living in Siskiyou County, we are resilient!

I will keep you updated as the situation progresses. Thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,
J.A. Martin
