Dorothy “LaVerne” King
April 8, 1934  –  March 28, 2025

Lifelong Siskiyou County resident Dorothy “LaVerne” King passed away on March 28, 2025 at Madrone Hospice in Yreka. She was 90 years old.

LaVerne was born on April 8, 1934 in Yreka to Leslie and Mildred Palmer. She worked as a telephone operator for a few years, but was best known for being an accomplished quilter. She was the founder of the Scott Valley Quilters Guild, and would make quilts for everyone.

LaVerne is survived by her daughters, Jodi King of Etna and Marlene Hasemeyer of Yreka; three grandchildren: Colt Campbell (Missy), Kash Hasemeyer (Becky) and Taylee Hansen (Richard); and three great grandchildren, Karson, Kanon and Keslie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald “Pete” King, and two grandchildren, April and Steven Stover. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend, Sadie Starr.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Etna. A reception will follow at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Fort Jones. Memorial contributions in LaVerne’s name may be made to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097.
