OPINION: Trump is creating a dictatorship

I believe that President Trump sees himself as our messiah. He is using Project 2025 as his roadmap to return America to its past conservative values.

In his first four days in office, nearly 66% of Trump’s executive actions duplicated or partially duplicated proposals outlined in Project 2025 (truthout.org, 1/22/2025).

On February 15, 2025, Trump posted on Truth Social and X: “He who saves his Country does not violate any Law.” He is telling us that he will do anything to achieve his goal of complete control of the federal government, legal or illegal.

On February 18, 2025, Trump signed an Executive Order ensuring that all federal agencies are accountable to the American people. Trump invoked Article II of the Constitution to rationalize this executive order that asserted the president’s authority over almost all regulatory agencies that were created by Congress.

Frank Bowman, a scholar of constitutional and criminal law at the University of Missouri School of Law, believes this executive order is a step toward “an open declaration of dictatorship.” Bowan further believes that Trump is telling us: I am the law. My will is the law. My view of the law is the only view that can be expressed (democracydocket.com, Feb 20, 2025).

Since he assumed office ten weeks ago, Trump has unleashed an unprecedented assault on the workings of the executive branch. Trump has made both the FBI and Department of Justice subservient to the him. He fired independent inspectors general operating in 17 federal agencies and fired the head of the Office of Special Counsel.

We need to ask ourselves if the Supreme Court will defend our Constitution and democracy or allow Trump to keep his dictatorship?

The big question is, will Trump’s dictatorship extend beyond the next four years?
